Hundreds of people gathered last February 16 in Geumnam-ro to protest against the controversial remarks of three lawmakers from Liberty Korea party. The public outcry came after commentator Jee Man-won and Liberty Korea Party members Rep. Kim Jin-tae, Rep. Lee Jong-myeong, and Rep. Kim Soon-rye made controversial remarks about the Gwangju Uprising during a recent public session. The staff of the May 18 Memorial Foundation, together with the citizens of Gwangju, participated during the protest.
Global NGO Masters Student Shan Nawaz and interns Gianna Catolico and Praveen Kumar Yadav shared their experiences in their social media pages:
A similar event was organized in Seoul in February 23.
Last week’s protest and even all the May 18-related protests in the previous years demonstrates the continuous dedication of the people of Gwangju to commemorate and pay homage to the fallen heroes of the May 18 Movement.
